vince linen tee. wool double serge skirt by j.crew. MIA boots.
flashback: two weeks. i originally wore a red plaid scarf with this outfit but i ended up getting rid of it as the day warmed up. i remember that i also felt tired and fussy; michael took the photo a couple days before i got sick. i think i like the top and skirt better with a scarf!
on a high note, i’m feeling much better and finding my routine again both at work and at home. hope your week is off to a similar—happy and healthy—start.

happy belated fourth of july! i hope you had a great holiday with your family and friends. we had a barbecue and listened to fireworks pop throughout the night— that’s what happens in firework-friendly south texas.
i wore this outfit on wednesday. i tend to wear patriotic colors all year so i don’t mind being miss america once or twice a week although miss america probably wouldn’t choose a vampire weekend song for the talent competition.
i wore this outfit last week in between two unusually cold and windy days. but i’m not complaining at all; may typically brings heat, heat, and more heat. the last few days have been especially pleasant with clear skies and a hint of summer.
speaking of summer, early bird registration is open for texas style council’s summer school in august. be there or be square!
blythe blouse by j.crew. corey lynn calter muslin skirt. swedish hasbeens super high clogs. apolis market bag.
polka dots are like potato chips; i can’t have just one. this skirt has quickly become one of my favorite pieces to wear to school. it pairs well with blouses, sweaters, and tees.
in college i never wore muslin skirts and dresses. they were too sheer and my younger, clueless self didn’t know much about slips and camisoles. now the older, wiser me thanks the heavens for them (and corey lynn calter for the polka dots).
stitchview cardigan by madewell. j.crew dress. vintage judith lieber belt. swedish hasbeens super high clogs. hand printed grocery tote.
i wore this ladylike outfit several weeks ago but never got around to posting it (until now). if you’re new to blogging, save all of your photos! they can help you out during busy times.
rosa (of rosa loves…) and angela (of notes from the dressing room) might remember the dress. last summer, michael and i walked around DC all day and the summery white frock kept me cool and polished. i didn’t even spill gelato on it while meeting them. it was a christmas— in july— miracle.
joie rancher tee. dorrie skirt by j.crew. necklace c/o LOFT. gloria wedges by bed stu. apolis market bag.
i wore this outfit earlier in the week before i came of (technology) age; i spilled riesling on my keyboard. my non-clumsy computer streak was bound to end. then our modem stopped working, and i took the events as a sign to relax. two harry potters, a school carnival, a class trip, and wishful catalog shopping later, i’m back online.
i featured the bag a few weeks ago as one of my maybe birthday presents. of course it ended up at our door as an ode to the city where we met and began our grand, silly, and best adventure.
i hope you have a great weekend! see you on monday.

the classic, breezy dress means a lot to me— at age 6, my favorite frock had dozens of navy dots, and twenty-odd years later, i got engaged in the grown-up version. i’ve worn it with several cardigans and my jean jacket.
on monday, i paired it with a yellow sweater and clogs (probably my favorite combo yet). while he snapped pictures, michael said, “make a pensive face… make a giggle face… make a madewell face.” this is it.

if you asked me ten years ago, “do you like orange?” i would have said, “ew.” if you asked me five years ago, “do you like orange?” i would have said, “sure.” if you asked me now if i like orange i would say, “YES!” it’s definitely a color i wear more and more over time.
after i wore the blouse to work, i found ink smudges on the placket from the rubber stamps i use to check my kids’ assignments. fortunately the stains came out with woolite and a teeny dot of dawn soap. yes, i put dishwashing liquid on a silk blouse. orange makes me brave.

see that chubby puggy? she turned five this month. michael says she can go to kindergarten in the fall. i wish!
sophie is a funny creature. she’s perpetually hungry, fiercely loyal, and always affectionate. she can detect the UPS truck from a few blocks away. she sheds hair like crazy (almost all fawn pugs do) and our vacuum cleaner fills up with her fur. but we love her anyway.
happy birthday sophie! thanks for being so gosh darn cute and making a cameo occasionally.
betsy sweater by j.crew. dalmation print skirt (found on ebay). lotta from stockholm clogs. pendleton canyonville tote.
can you tell i love my pendleton bag? it’s big enough for a house (a dollhouse) and an army (a fleet of clipboards and books). i’m so glad santa got it for me. he’s got a good eye, that santa. :o)
i wore this outfit earlier in the week to school. we’re experiencing a warm spell which means skirts and sandals for everyone (well, at least for me). i love boots and jeans but i’ve enjoyed picking out different clothes. you can’t go wrong with lots of dots.
dolman sleeved sweatshirt by j.crew. james jeans high class skinnies. tory burch reva flats. missibaba tote.
i feel like i’ve been wearing the same things over and over since december: sweaters, pants or jeans, and boots. when the days are chilly, i’m drawn to easy pieces that require minimal thought in the mornings. sometimes i wish i threw things together in a different way (or wish i didn’t wake up so early), but that’s life.
on sunday the temperature rose to the seventies, and i thought, i’m going to wear flats! i’m going to wear jeans— white jeans! it’s funny how a bit of sunshine will put a little spring in my step.
do you like dressing for winter? or are you a warm weather girl like me?
dolman sleeved sweatshirt by j.crew. la la leaves dress by marc jacobs. merona tights. pour la victoire boots.
some days i like tailored clothing, and other days i like slouchy stuff. i wore this easygoing outfit on thursday.
i also wear sweatshirts at home, oftentimes over leggings. lately i love to spend evenings near the fireplace and read a book (or cut things out for school). it’s a nice, old fashioned sort of feeling.
betsy sweater by j.crew. free people tunic tank. skyline skinny skinnies by paige. pour la victoire boots. missibaba tote from etcetera, etc.
howdy! old man winter decided to visit this week with highs in the 50’s-60’s and lows in the 30’s-40’s. we’re not sure how long he will stick around, but i’ll take cold weather while it lasts. yesterday i wore the outfit to school along with my green j.crew coat. michael said i resembled our christmas tree.
speaking of christmas trees, i didn’t realize that real trees are so thirsty. we water our tree every other day. it keeps almost all of its needles, and sophie has no interest in it whatsoever. i feel fortunate because we have friends who “gate” their tree from pets. so far, so good, sophie. :o)
merino boyfriend sweater by j.crew. polka dot blouse from nordstrom rack. skinny skinny ankle corduroys by madewell. nine west wedges.
sometimes we call sophie “little fawn” along with other nicknames like “miss burrow-burrow”, “rapscallion”, and “princess pugglesworth.” i’m sure she’s bewildered by all of them. i paired my big fawn sweater with a hint of dots and lots of red. i think the sweater and blouse combo would look cute with black pants, too.
yep, i’m still wearing sandals (though i wore boots to school today). mornings are chilly and afternoons are hot. i hope it cools down soon— i want to wear a coat!
tommy hilfiger cardigan. polka dot tie-neck dress by j.crew. vintage judith lieber belt. gloria wedges by bed stu.
i wore this patriotic outfit to school a couple of weeks ago during one of our warm spells (which linger and languish at their own whim). the other day angela (of notes from the dressing room) told me, “i can’t believe you’re wearing open-toed shoes in november!” i can’t believe it either. but when it turns cold in texas, it will turn cold and stay cold. it hasn’t made it around the bend yet.
this weekend, M and i plan on decorating the house a bit. our pre-lit tree has served us for many years. we’re considering a new tradition of having a real fir tree. M and i both work, and i feel wary shopping for trees at night. is that strange? i want to see them in the sun, fluff their branches and needles, and check how nicely they stand. do you have any tree buying tips for us?
p.s. if we find a great tree, we will donate the old one to a preschool.
