2014. baby boom.
lush maxidress. braided sightseer sandals by madewell.
wow, look at that bump! i feel like he has grown over the past two weeks, and it’s very apparent from a side view. lately i’ve been wearing sundresses and maxi dresses; they’re the most comfortable things in the texas heat. this basic black dress is one of my favorites because it’s pleated in the front at the waist and it has a cute crisscross detail in the back.
i hope y’all have a great weekend! we’re installing our car seat and running errands as usual. no labor pains… yet!
p.s. last friday tumblr blocked bloglovin’ from having access to blog feeds (read more here) and they haven’t reached an agreement. as always you may visit littletinsoldier.com directly or watch for post updates via twitter.

2014. a boy, a girl, a dog.
cotton sundress from forever 21. vintage coach belt (thrifted). braided sightseer sandals by madewell.
i wore the dress back in june for the first time and i didn’t belt it, going for a carefree and bohemian attitude (in my head anyway). it’s a tent dress i.e. i could probably cover an armchair with it. i styled the dress the other day with a belt and realized it was so much better! i look like a pregnant woman versus someone who is shoplifting the entire potato chip aisle.
in pre-baby times i could wear the belt with jeans. now it fits just under my ribcage. how things have changed for the bigger… and better. soon sophie will transition from being our dog to being a little boy’s dog. she’ll sniff him and love him, i’m sure of it.

2014. summer tan.
linen sandwave dress and braided sightseer sandals by madewell. cold picnic tote.
pregnancy can make you emotional! yesterday morning i saw this photo and our other snaps and i cried and cried, not taking into account it’s my go-to outfit lately and i feel very cute in it. instead i saw a huge tummy and bigger legs and wondered why i asked michael to take a few pictures. today i look at the photo and think it’s just fine. there’s a little boy in that belly happily kicking away.
i bought the dress a few weeks ago during a madewell sale i.e. me and kelsey’s favorite time to shop. it’s a true babydoll dress; i’m wearing a small and i’m eight months along so size down. i like it because it keeps me cool and it fits (probably the most important thing).
the lesson of the day is don’t delete any blog photos when you don’t feel like yourself. unless you have pizza stains on your clothes— that can be one of the few exceptions.

2014. tweedledee.
anne klein cardigan. striped jumpsuit from tj maxx. swedish hasbeens super high clogs. apolis market bag.
i first saw the jumpsuit on jen (of jen loves kev) a few weeks ago and i thought it was super cute! she bought it from tj maxx but selections at their stores tend to vary; i doubted it would show up at my local chain. well, it did! and kelsey (of snappy casual) found one the other day, too.
the stripes hide my baby bump extremely well. never let anyone tell you to avoid horizontal stripes! michael said i looked like alice in wonderland; i think he meant i looked like tweedledee. he also told me the jumpsuit resembled long johns so that’s enough commentary from the husband for today. :o)

2014. blue and pink.
lush maxidress from tj maxx. vintage vera neumann scarf. leather tote c/o cuyana. bamboo sandals. son of a sailor necklace.
happy monday! i spent the weekend in this comfy outfit i.e. i wore it to the grocery store twice (doubt anyone noticed) and sat on the porch sewing things for the baby’s room (check back on wednesday for a post). i understand why so many mamas love maxi dresses; they’re soft and easy and with the right accessories they look sophisticated.
are you watching the world cup? we watched some games; michael comments on the matches in an british accent and i point out players wearing the same shoes (i like the bright yellow cleats the best). we’re not rooting for a particular team; it’s just exciting that millions of people around the world huddle around the television doing the same thing. maybe i’ll cheer for germany today, the home of haribo gummies!

2014. never say never.
printed romper from tj maxx. lotte clogs by loeffler randall.
last year if you asked me what i wouldn’t wear as a pregnant woman, “romper” would have been one of my responses. typically expecting mamas visit the ladies room more often and a romper isn’t the easiest item of clothing. also rompers tend to be too short for me. lo and behold i found a breezy navy romper at tj maxx and brought it home. the ruffle and pattern camouflage the belly and the length is perfect. i wore it with a cardigan before the temperature shot up.
while we’re on the subject of never saying never, look at my hair! this is the shortest cut i’ve had in probably ten years. i wanted a simpler cut for the summer and i was growing increasingly embarrassed of my long, tangled hair every time i went to the salon. plus my hair will be out of reach of tiny hands (at least for awhile). if i know anything about babies, i know they love grabbing your hair!

2014. vintage for two.
soft joie semillon tank. vintage paisley skirt. boardwalk sandals by madewell. son of a sailor necklace. cole haan sunglasses.
when i first began blogging, i owned a substantial number of vintage midi skirts. then i grew tired of most of them and they wound up back at the thrift store. lately i’m warming up to them again for the prints and— who am i kidding— the elastic waists. i bought this funky black-and-white skirt for $3 and it was the best $3 i’ve spent in awhile (especially because i drink less coffee). it reminds me of a skirt ace and jig would make.
over the weekend we ate mexican food with michael’s mom and we picked out a rug for the baby’s room. i toyed around with a black and white nursery but i also liked the idea of crisp blue and white. we chose blue! i want it to be a summer camp kind of room like this room from serena and lily with a hodgepodge of objects, animals, and items.
and whew! boy is it getting warm in texas. good thing 7-11 is slowly expanding south because it’s not truly summer without a slurpee.
