2014. arrows and angles.
arrowwood tunic by maeve. verdugo maternity leggings by paige. leather tote c/o cuyana. madison harding flats. cole haan sunglasses.
i was going to title this outfit “birthday suit” but i decided against it (though it consists of all new birthday clothes). i told michael i wanted two things: breezy shirts that i could wear now and later (as i get bigger) and new mama jeans. i did well, i think!
we had a relaxing weekend. michael cleared the leaves out of the yard and i planted new annuals in our whiskey barrels (i call them hobbit barrels). i’m also on the lookout for lavender and other bee-friendly plants— i like seeing bees in our yard. hope you had a nice monday!

2014. roots.
lucky brand cardigan. la la leaves dress by marc jacobs. thrifted sash. MIA boots.
i la la love this dress. it’s tricky to style in a new way because i’ve worn it quite a bit over the years with various cardigans, jackets, and belts. it’s a great maternity dress because the bubble hem creates a poofy silhouette whether you’re expecting or not.
next week we plan on working in our yard. leaves are still falling in texas! michael will tackle the crunchy brown piles and i’ll root out the weeds and dead plants. i’m brainstorming ways i can garden while sitting in a lounge chair. i’ll let you know how that strategy works out.
if you follow me on instagram, you know that i recently celebrated my birthday. thanks for the b-day love! i regret devouring the cupcakes without documenting them, but food trumps photos (especially if you’re eating for two).

2014. overall winner.
maison scotch blouse. destructed overalls by kensie jeans. swedish hasbeens super high clogs.
oh my goodness. it’s been forever since i shared an outfit post. sunshine has finally returned, and i took the opportunity to wear overalls. yes, overalls! i wore overalls constantly as a teenager with roxy tees and big sweatshirts. i thrifted a couple pairs last year but they never fit properly (blame my long torso and legs). after seeing indiana in her cute overalls, i caved and bought new, full-price overalls. the verdict? i love them.
if you’re interested in overalls, mine are by kensie. they’re not maternity overalls; i sized up for a looser fit. plus they’re a little stretchy. i’m 5’9” so they’re a tad bit short, but they look fine with a heel. i also like that the straps are long enough for tall girls.
like most men, my husband is bewildered by overalls. oh well. he already put a ring on it.

2014. these boots.
anna cardigan by mcginn. madewell tee. union maternity leggings by paige. enzo angiolini boots.
these boots are made for wearin’… especially because i bought them back in the fall. they’re super soft and super cool and i was super afraid of scuffing them up. then i remembered my new year’s promise to be plucky and just went ahead and wore ‘em. no scuffs yet!
michael calls this sweater “the sheep sweater.” he pretty much hates all of my oversized cardigans. i think it’s cute. it also doubles as a blanket so maybe we should call it the counting sheep sweater.
hope you gals are having a good week. it’s almost valentine’s day, and i’m counting down to our valentine dinner of cheeseburgers and french fries.

2014. spring hints.
fossil dress. sidewalk wedges by madewell. necklace by jen loves kev.
last week the temperature reached eighty degrees and i rejoiced in a warm weather shirt dress. i happily told michael, “i’m going to wear dresses and skirts to school everyday!” i spoke too soon.
the last few days have been cool, and today is downright cold. the wind is blowing so fiercely that it sounds like someone is fussing with our back door, and the weatherman predicts overnight sleet and snow.
oh, texas. at least you let me wear a dress once this winter.

2014. oh, pinyon.
madewell tee. verdugo leggings by paige. pendleton pinyon stripe scarf. MIA boots.
michael surprised me with the bold scarf for christmas, and upon opening it, i wrapped around my head like a star wars jedi. it’s a giant scarf that doubles as a shawl and triples as a blanket for a shorter person.
sophie and i are home today for the MLK holiday. we’re catching up on laundry, cleaning, blogging, and maybe folding. we won’t get too ahead of ourselves.

2014. simple does it.
thrifted sweater. skyline skinny skinnies by paige. french knot skimmers by madewell. leather tote c/o cuyana.
you know what i’ve been wearing all the time since thanksgiving? this here outfit. i kind of feel like a younger, 1980’s version of myself would wear the same thing to school. i got rid of my other oversized, constantly-worn, thrifted sweater after i found a new (old) friend. if you want a big, cotton, chunky sweater, go thrifting. find one and you’re set for a year or more.
i think most of my outfits are very simple. sometimes simple is all you need. a good pair of shoes is extra. so is a side ponytail.
