i wore this outfit last week in between two unusually cold and windy days. but i’m not complaining at all; may typically brings heat, heat, and more heat. the last few days have been especially pleasant with clear skies and a hint of summer.

speaking of summer, early bird registration is open for texas style council’s summer school in august. be there or be square!

polka dots are like potato chips; i can’t have just one. this skirt has quickly become one of my favorite pieces to wear to school. it pairs well with blouses, sweaters, and tees.

in college i never wore muslin skirts and dresses. they were too sheer and my younger, clueless self didn’t know much about slips and camisoles. now the older, wiser me thanks the heavens for them (and corey lynn calter for the polka dots).

if i could wear this outfit everyday, i would. the classic colors, fun sunnies, and sensible sandals go from work to errands to weekend dates.

when i bought the skirt from ebay, i didn’t realize the slight darts in the front would create a “pouch” effect, making me feel self-conscious. it kind of looks like i have a kangaroo pocket, a food baby, or a real baby. the first time i wore the skirt, i paired it with an oversized sweater.

but last week i tucked my blouse in. who sees a kangaroo pouch? not me in my shades.

i wore this outfit earlier in the week before i came of (technology) age; i spilled riesling on my keyboard. my non-clumsy computer streak was bound to end. then our modem stopped working, and i took the events as a sign to relax. two harry potters, a school carnival, a class trip, and wishful catalog shopping later, i’m back online.

i featured the bag a few weeks ago as one of my maybe birthday presents. of course it ended up at our door as an ode to the city where we met and began our grand, silly, and best adventure.

michael calls this shirt my picnic shirt for obvious reasons. he likes muted plaids and i like megaphone ones.

somehow i received birthday dates two nights in a row. we went out for sushi on tuesday and cheeseburgers on wednesday. if it wasn’t supposed to rain this weekend, i would aim for a picnic on saturday. but i’ll settle for extra cake.

2013. with lemon.

in high school my friends and i frequented places like applebee’s for easy friday or saturday night dinners. a meal rang up at less than ten dollars, leaving extra money for a movie or a magazine at the bookstore.

in college i discovered hole-in-the-wall, mom-and-pop, and star-of-the-show kind of restaurants. these places had thick tablecloths, candlelights, and wine glasses. these places had water with lemon!

now you can get water with lemon almost anywhere. one of our favorite restaurants in town offers it with lime, orange, or grapefruit. in the back of my head, i remember that it’s just water, but i chuckle at how a very simple thing can appear quite posh.

this outfit was monday’s ensemble… with lemon. :o)

back in 2010, i owned two striped knit skirts (one in black, one in navy) but they somehow got misplaced when we moved into our house along with several pairs of pants. i probably took the bag to goodwill by mistake. however striped skirts are omnipresent, and i made a new friend in no time.

i wore this outfit to the grocery store on sunday, and michael remarked that i was too dressed up. i replied, “but i might meet a cute guy and he might buy groceries for me.” and you know what? i did. but here’s the weird thing: we have the same address.

i always know my bangs are getting long when michael tells me, “you’ve got helmet hair.” it was a fitting observation for superbowl sunday. i wore the outfit to the grocery store for football food, and today i wore it to school.

over the weekend i bought two new lipsticks (the coral shade is sienna by boots) and one book (the fault in our stars by john green). after super bowl sunday comes bookworm monday with a glamorous grin.

can you tell i love my pendleton bag? it’s big enough for a house (a dollhouse) and an army (a fleet of clipboards and books). i’m so glad santa got it for me. he’s got a good eye, that santa. :o)

i wore this outfit earlier in the week to school. we’re experiencing a warm spell which means skirts and sandals for everyone (well, at least for me). i love boots and jeans but i’ve enjoyed picking out different clothes. you can’t go wrong with lots of dots.

there’s an old vampire weekend song called walcott that goes… “walcott, don’t you wanna get out of cape cod?” it contains other lyrics but those seem to be the only ones i remember. walcott is a very preppy name, and this is a very preppy outfit. i wore it on saturday to the grocery store, and i liked it so much i kept it on for our party (sans clogs). in michael’s words, i couldn’t tower over all our guests. in my words, he’s never been to a blogging conference.

my friends grechen and sharon love clogs; i hope they like my new ones! i bought them from amazon with christmas money, and they arrived in less than two weeks from england. i’ve been stomping around in them since. stomp, stomp, stomp… and stomp.

i wore this outfit on tuesday (i think). i don’t remember exactly because cough cough cough cough cough cough cough cough cough cough… that’s how most of last week sounded. autumn means allergies, and they tend to be more annoying than serious. a few days ago, i started coughing at bedtime, losing almost all shut-eye. on friday, i went to the doctor and found out that my present (and past) bouts of coughing most resemble mild asthma, not allergies.

long story short, i’m feeling much better, taking the right medicine, and thankful for three full nights of sleep. stay tuned as i catch up on posts and share a new make and take project!

i’ve worn this outfit to school twice (yesterday and a couple weeks ago), and i love it. i like the contrast of the little dots and the big dots, and i kind of wish i had a kelly green sweater to wear on top. i’ll put it on my thrift list.

i plan on going thrifting more often after halloween. everyone’s at the thrift store looking for hand-me-down costumes, flapper dresses, suspenders, and other odds and ends like baskets and hats. hurry up, october 31st… i want to look for silk shirts and crazy prints in peace.

recently i discovered torn seams in my favorite polka dot skirt and threw myself into panic mode. i’m not sure if she can be fixed without taking in more fabric, and the fabric is already delicate. while looking for a substitute navy skirt on ebay, i found this darling skirt in black and white. it helped me forget my loss (for a little while) on tuesday.

i know that clothes are clothes, but memories are memories. i love fashion because many pieces in my closet mark sentimental or important times in my life— dates with M, dresses worn on trips, gifts from holidays or birthdays, or handbags bought as once-in-awhile rewards. i found the old polka dot skirt on one of my first thrifting trips in san antonio, and it reignited my high school obsession with vintage, unique clothes. i hope the tailor can mend her. if not, i recorded her days on the blog (and on my business card).

i love this simple tee shirt. i wore it last week to school with skinny red corduroys, and today i decided to pair it with red again. the outfit reminds me of a cute dress that may or may not already exist.

i can’t believe tomorrow is friday. we’ve been very busy at school coloring, cutting, and pasting— i feel like i’m doing the same things at home! i’m slowly adding more prints to etsy, building a website for though very humble, and staying on top of freelance work. but i feel like it’s a good kind of busy, the happy kind. cheerful bees make honey, and angry ones sting. i pick honey.

this skirt is one of my wardrobe all-stars. i thrifted it when i first moved to south texas, and we’ve been best friends ever since. i wore it to school on wednesday and afterwards to the salon.

a haircut usually mean freshening up my layers and trimming my bangs. i decided to chop off two inches for a change (a small change considering my hair is still long). it doesn’t look “that different” as M said, but i like it anyway.
