the first day i wore this sweater, michael said, “wow, that’s a pink sweater.” i said, “a pink i-hate-it sweater or a pink i-like-it sweater?” he replied, “i like it.” two weeks ago i styled it to school with a polka dot skirt, and last sunday i wore it to lowe’s. school, gardening stores, and cheeseburger places… that’s how i roll.

if you asked me ten years ago, “do you like orange?” i would have said, “ew.” if you asked me five years ago, “do you like orange?” i would have said, “sure.” if you asked me now if i like orange i would say, “YES!” it’s definitely a color i wear more and more over time.

after i wore the blouse to work, i found ink smudges on the placket from the rubber stamps i use to check my kids’ assignments. fortunately the stains came out with woolite and a teeny dot of dawn soap. yes, i put dishwashing liquid on a silk blouse. orange makes me brave.

2013. not so neutral.

usually when i engage in “tone dressing”, i wear blue from head to toe because blue is my favorite color. on sunday i broke out my best beiges and they all happened to match.

michael calls this sweater “that sweater” i.e. he isn’t a big fan of it. sometimes i wish he would refer to our candy bowl as “those candies”— consequently i could have them to myself. until then, at least this sweater that sweater is mine for keeps.

see that chubby puggy? she turned five this month. michael says she can go to kindergarten in the fall. i wish!

sophie is a funny creature. she’s perpetually hungry, fiercely loyal, and always affectionate. she can detect the UPS truck from a few blocks away. she sheds hair like crazy (almost all fawn pugs do) and our vacuum cleaner fills up with her fur. but we love her anyway.

happy birthday sophie! thanks for being so gosh darn cute and making a cameo occasionally.

remember my navy polka dot skirt that ripped? i snagged a lookalike on ebay. awwww yeah!

i always know my bangs are getting long when michael tells me, “you’ve got helmet hair.” it was a fitting observation for superbowl sunday. i wore the outfit to the grocery store for football food, and today i wore it to school.

over the weekend i bought two new lipsticks (the coral shade is sienna by boots) and one book (the fault in our stars by john green). after super bowl sunday comes bookworm monday with a glamorous grin.

can you tell i love my pendleton bag? it’s big enough for a house (a dollhouse) and an army (a fleet of clipboards and books). i’m so glad santa got it for me. he’s got a good eye, that santa. :o)

i wore this outfit earlier in the week to school. we’re experiencing a warm spell which means skirts and sandals for everyone (well, at least for me). i love boots and jeans but i’ve enjoyed picking out different clothes. you can’t go wrong with lots of dots.

there’s an old vampire weekend song called walcott that goes… “walcott, don’t you wanna get out of cape cod?” it contains other lyrics but those seem to be the only ones i remember. walcott is a very preppy name, and this is a very preppy outfit. i wore it on saturday to the grocery store, and i liked it so much i kept it on for our party (sans clogs). in michael’s words, i couldn’t tower over all our guests. in my words, he’s never been to a blogging conference.

my friends grechen and sharon love clogs; i hope they like my new ones! i bought them from amazon with christmas money, and they arrived in less than two weeks from england. i’ve been stomping around in them since. stomp, stomp, stomp… and stomp.

hello again! i didn’t mean to take a small break from the blog; last week was one of those weeks where i planned outfits but changed them at the last minute. then i didn’t like anything and changed again— oy vey. on the brightside, i earned an extra jean day every week because a coworker and i run a school club. i was so excited! nothing can make a teacher smile quite like the promise of denim.

on saturday, i wore this snow white and rose red (or rose red-orange) combination to dinner for a friend’s birthday. happy birthday dina! it was my first time pairing the booties with colored pants, and i liked it. i thought michael would give me the deer in the headlights look i.e. you’re wearing that? but he didn’t.

you won’t catch him wearing red pants though. our j.crew shopper already tried.

on friday night, we went to a french restaurant for michael’s birthday. the weather wasn’t warm, but it wasn’t cold either— i opted for a boxy sweater instead of a blouse and coat. nothing beats a cheap sweater made chic!

the magical heels are making their first blog appearance. i bought them on a shopping date with tanvi last year. their names are fred and george weasley. okay, maybe not fred and george… more like padma and parvati patil. either way, they’re super cute, and i should take them out more often.

howdy! old man winter decided to visit this week with highs in the 50’s-60’s and lows in the 30’s-40’s. we’re not sure how long he will stick around, but i’ll take cold weather while it lasts. yesterday i wore the outfit to school along with my green j.crew coat. michael said i resembled our christmas tree.

speaking of christmas trees, i didn’t realize that real trees are so thirsty. we water our tree every other day. it keeps almost all of its needles, and sophie has no interest in it whatsoever. i feel fortunate because we have friends who “gate” their tree from pets. so far, so good, sophie. :o)

2012. little fawn.

sometimes we call sophie “little fawn” along with other nicknames like “miss burrow-burrow”, “rapscallion”, and “princess pugglesworth.” i’m sure she’s bewildered by all of them. i paired my big fawn sweater with a hint of dots and lots of red. i think the sweater and blouse combo would look cute with black pants, too.

yep, i’m still wearing sandals (though i wore boots to school today). mornings are chilly and afternoons are hot. i hope it cools down soon— i want to wear a coat!

2012. comfy cozy.

every fall and winter, i find an outfit that i can wear several days in a row simply because it’s comfy cozy and i’m comfy lazy. a few weeks ago, i threw away my old leggings and bought two pairs of ponte knit pants on sale at nordstrom rack. i chose paige and joe’s— both pairs fit like a dream. they feel like j.crew’s pixie pants but have longer inseams (good for tall girls).

i found the sweater at the thrift store. i used to own this sweater— well, not this exact sweater because some lady wrote her name on the tag, so it’s definitely not mine. the year was 1992, middle school monopolized my days, and express churned out chunky cotton sweaters in solids and stripes. my mom bought me three of them, and i wore them constantly.

then i remember seeing one of the science teachers at school in my sweater. i thought, oh my god, a teacher has the same sweater as me, and oh my god, do teachers go to the mall?!

i wore this outfit on columbus day— that’s right, five days ago. M keeps my blog photos on his computer because it’s newer, faster, and all around better than my own. but his i-mac misbehaved during the week and apple kept it for a few days, only to deliver the news that they found nothing wrong with it.

M keeps joking that the apple kids spent the whole time in lightroom, wondering why there are so many photos of an asian girl in different outfits. bloggers and bloggers’ photographers… we’re weirdos, i tell ya.

to everyone in texas, happy first day of school! i’ve been meaning to pair the dress with a red sweater. it’s a great dress for work because it’s lightweight and boldly printed, and i can tuck my keys in the pockets.

after working on my room for two weeks, i welcomed a new group of children to the classroom. we discussed routines, supplies, lunch, recess, and nap. unfortunately on the first day, there are no toys or centers, a fact that disappoints some of them. i will slowly introduce materials as the week progresses.

now that i’m “officially” back to work, M and i set a goal for posting at least three work outfits a week plus weekend wear. i expect you to hold me to it!

i haven’t worn white shorts in awhile because i got rid of my thrifted shorts. i shrunk them in the dryer (the waist was already snug) and squeezing back into them was a pointless activity. luckily i found replacement shorts— cleverly lined with nude fabric— at zara. so linda and white shorts got a second chance.

this morning i went to school to arrange furniture because i live a trés enchantée life. the custodians won’t turn on the A/C in our hallway until next week, but i braved the heat to rebuild the majority of the room. tomorrow i plan on organizing the bookcases and re-hanging the curtains (i took them down over the summer for a much needed bath).

some of you know that i am afraid of lizards. while rifling through the classroom closet, i found a small gecko on the floor. i tried to shoo him toward the back door but he ran further into the closet out of my sight. i hope he finds his way outside tonight. please, little lizard, pretty please.
